Sport & Globalization
On Thursday 22nd April 2010, HIVsport in conjunction with Northern College successfully facilitated a seminar called ‘Sport & Globalization: The World Cup in South Africa and Beyond
Key speakers included:
Chris Dolby (Player Manager, Sheffield FC / Coach, Barnsley FC Community Sports);
Yvonne Cass (Chair, South Yorkshire Refugee Forum); and
Sarah Williams (Equality and Diversity Manager, RFL)
The day school was chaired by Alan Irwin from Ruskin College, also representing the Education Sports Forum and HIVsport.
A range of issues were discussed including:
- HIV/AIDS the action necessary to address at International and a personal level
- Equality and anti-racism within sport
- Relationship between sport, industry, trade and corporate responsibility
- Engaging young people in social issues through sport

London Pride Run 2009
The Bermondsey Running Crew (BRC) saw an opportunity to raise over £500 from sponsorship for HIVsport at the London Pride Run on Saturday 15th August. This well established race for everyone, regardless of age, ability, gender or sexuality was the 6th annual run and has become one of the UK’s major gay & lesbian sports events. The certified 10km run drew almost 1000 runners and took place off-road in East London’s Victoria Park.
